Details
Where do the horns come from? Reindeer is the only deer in which both sexes have antlers. The bulls lose their horns in the fall after the rut, and the bulls lose theirs after calving, then the horns grow back during the summer. As they grow out, the horns are covered with bast skin that nourishes the horns as they grow. These antlers have either fallen off by themselves or sawn off from male reindeer. It does not hurt the reindeer to saw them off, they are a bit like cutting off a nail. The horns are also swept when we saw them off, i.e. no bast skin is left. We can guarantee that the reindeer antlers come from free-roaming reindeer that graze naturally in Sweden's mountain world.
